San Jose- 1 Person Killed And 2 People Injured After High-Speed Chase Ended In A Deadly Crash On Yerba Buena Road

A high-speed chase on the freeway that ended in a deadly crash left 1 person dead and 2 people injured in San Jose early Monday morning, June 10, 2019. California Highway Patrol officers started following a BMW reportedly being driven by 28-year old Alexander Zumini at 3:15 am on southbound Interstate Highway 280 near 7th street. The officers started following Zumini after they noticed the driver driving erratically, according to CHP officer Ross Lee. After following Zumini all the way to southbound US Highway 101, CHP officers noticed Zumini still driving erratically and attempted to pull him over. According to Lee, Zumini refused to stop upon being attempted to be pulled over. Zumini then fled at speeds greater than 100 miles per hour and turned off his lights at one point in the chase. According to Lee, Zumini then drove to Yerba Buena Road off ramp and ran the red light in the intersection. As a result, Zumini crashed with a mini van travelling on a green light on city streets. The mini van reportedly had 2 male occupants in it. The mini van came to rest on a sidewalk. Meanwhile, the BMW that Zumini was driving came to rest on the southbound Highway 101 Yerba Buena Road on-ramp. Zumini reportedly tried to escape the accident site following the crash. However, he was captured. The driver of the mini van died on the spot at the crash site. The female passenger of Zumini’s vehicle sustained minor injuries. She was taken to the hospital so that she could be treated. The said female passenger was identified as Melissa Dawn Vincent, a resident of San Jose. She was arrested under the suspicion of possessing a stolen property and identity theft related charges. The passenger of the mini van sustained serious injuries. As of Monday morning, he has been reportedly in critical condition in the hospital. Zumini was also taken to the hospital. After he was captured, officers heard Zumini said that he used drugs before he got on the vehicle to drive. Zumini admitted using methamphetamine before getting on the vehicle to drive.
