Speeding driver crashes into supermarket in Southcrest

SAN DIEGO, CA — A driver slammed into Northgate Market early Thursday after leaving an Interstate 805 offramp in San Diego’s Southcrest neighborhood, reports ABC 10 News.

The collision occurred in the 1400 block of South 43rd Street shortly after 3:00 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates the male driver had just exited the southbound lanes of I-805 when he sped past the intersection. He then entered a parking lot, where he collided with multiple signs and bushes before crashing into the market.

Authorities said the man was able to exit his car and suffered only minor injuries to the face.

No other injuries have been reported, but damage to the building was being evaluated.

It was not immediately clear whether the driver was intoxicated at the time, but an investigation remains underway.
