SPRINTER train strikes pickup truck near downtown Escondido

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — A driver was hurt Monday morning when a SPRINTER train collided with a pickup truck near downtown Escondido’s Vineyard neighborhood, according to NBC San Diego.

The accident occurred at 740 Enterprise Street, near State Route 78 and Interstate 15.

The circumstances behind the crash remain unclear, but Escondido police said the train struck a blue pickup truck, sending it into a nearby fire hydrant.

Authorities confirmed no injuries were reported on the train. The driver of the pickup sustained minor injuries, but it was unclear whether they had to be hospitalized.

Police asked the public to avoid the area as crews worked the scene.

According to North County Transit, tracks between Escondido Transit center and Nordahl Road Station were shut down.

An investigation into the cause of the incident was underway.
