Teen cyclist hit, seriously hurt by pickup truck near Murrieta

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A 14-year-old girl was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon when she was hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle near Murrieta, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident took place at the intersection of Pourroy Road and High Vista Drive, a few blocks east of Crown Valley Park. It was first reported to the CHP at 3:44 p.m.

While the circumstances of the crash are unclear, officials said the teen was on a bike when she was struck by a driver in a blue Dodge Ram pickup truck.

The CHP Traffic Incident page indicates the victim was on the roadway and unconscious following the crash. “Major injuries” were reported, and a medical helicopter was requested at the scene.

All lanes of Pourroy Road were blocked in the immediate aftermath.

No further information has been made available at this time, but authorities said the driver remained at the site.
