Tractor-trailer load destroyed by fire on I-5 in Del Mar

SAN DIEGO, CA – The produce load inside a tractor-trailer was destroyed when the vehicle caught fire on Interstate 5 in the Del Mar area on Thursday night.

According to CHP, a tractor-trailer caught fire on the right side of I-5 north near Del Mar Heights Road at about 11:50 p.m. The fire was coming from underneath the trailer in the very back.

Firefighters responded and were able to extinguish the fire on the 40-foot trailer in under half an hour. However, the produce inside was almost entirely burned.

A tow truck was called to take away the truck and trailer. The area was cleared at about 3 a.m.
