UPDATE: Authorities ID motorcyclist killed in Pine Valley crash

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — A 55-year-old South Carolina man has been identified as the motorcyclist who died last Sunday after a crash in Pine Valley, reports FOX 5 San Diego.

The California Highway Patrol said the fatal wreck occurred on Sunrise Highway, about 1.5 miles north of Old Highway 80, on September 17, at about 1:25 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates the victim, Mitchell Carl Van Linge, was operating a Ducati motorcycle southbound on Sunrise Highway. At one point, he lost control of the motorcycle, causing it to strike a guardrail. Authorities said Van Linge was ejected from the bike and about 100 down an embankment.

First responders had the rider rushed by airlift to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office has since listed his manner of death as accidental.
