Publish Date: 2023/05/30

SAN DIEGO, CA — Authorities have identified a 38-year-old man who died last Thursday after a pair of pedestrian crashes in northeast San Diego, reports KUSI.

The fatal incident occurred in the 5000 block of El Cajon Boulevard, in the city’s Talmadge neighborhood. It was reported shortly before 9:30 p.m.

A preliminary investigation shows the man was crossing the road on foot when he was hit by a westbound 2016 Honda Civic driven by a 24-year-old woman.

Despite attempts from bystanders to stop oncoming traffic, a 22-year-old man behind the wheel of a 2010 Toyota Corolla ran over and killed the victim. San Diego Police said the second driver had been confused about what was going on and did not see the pedestrian in time.

The victim, Antonio Mateo Antonio, was pronounced deceased on the scene, confirmed officials. The county Medical Examiner’s Office said he died from “multiple blunt-force injuries.”

An investigation by the SDPD’s Traffic Division remains ongoing.
