SAN DIEGO, CA — Two people have died following a two-car crash last Tuesday, August 1, in San Diego’s Bay Terraces neighborhood that left several others injured, reports NBC San Diego.
San Diego Police responded to the scene at the corner of South Woodman Street and Jamie Avenue at about 9:24 p.m.
Preliminary details indicate that a 24-year-old man was driving a Honda southbound at the same time a 56-year-old man was driving a 2006 Kia Sedona in the opposite way. Moments after the Kia turned onto Woodman Street without yielding the right of way, the vehicles collided.
One victim, Ernest Martinez Acuna, 76, was ejected from the Honda during the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Officials learned he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.
His wife, 74-year-old Olivia Acuna, also a passenger in the Honda, was rushed to Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego. Though her injuries were initially believed to be non-life-threatening, she was also later pronounced deceased.
On Sunday, the Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the cause of death for both victims to be “multiple blunt force injuries.”
All other involved occupants suffered minor injuries.
No further information has been made available at this time, and no pending charges have been reported.
