UPDATE: Man dies after crash with pickup truck in Encinitas

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — A 62-year-old man died Thursday evening after his car was struck by a pickup truck as he finished delivering groceries in Encinitas, according to FOX 5 San Diego.

The fatal crash happened on the 900 block of Encinitas Boulevard at approximately 7:00 p.m.

Authorities learned the man was leaving an apartment complex in a 2007 Toyota Corolla when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle stopped in the southbound lane of the road. Shortly after, the driver’s side door of the Corolla was hit by a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, causing both vehicles to slide onto the opposite end of the street and come to a rest at the curb.

The driver in the Corolla was later discovered trapped in the vehicle by responding medics with the Encinitas Fire Department, who pronounced him deceased on the scene.

Authorities have not disclosed any information about the other driver, but no other injuries were reported.

The case is currently being handled by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies said they do not suspect drugs or alcohol contributed to the accident.
