UPDATE: Pedestrian identified in fatal National City crash

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — An 87-year-old man has been identified as the pedestrian who was fatally hit a driver Tuesday morning in a National City crosswalk, according to Times of San Diego.

Medics responded to the scene at the intersection of East 24th Street and Highland Avenue shortly after 8:30 a.m.

An early investigation indicates the elderly man was walking across East 24th Street in a designated crosswalk when he was struck by a driver in a pickup truck.

Officials said the driver had failed to yield to the pedestrian while turning left from a northbound lane.

Despite life-saving measures from first responders, the victim was later pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver remained at the site and cooperated with officers. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors.

At this time, no charges or citations have been reported.
