Woman dies after head-on crash on Lilac Rd in Valley Center

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — A 76-year-old woman died Tuesday evening after a two-vehicle collision that injured two others in northwest Valley Center, according to Valley RoadRunner.

The fatal wreck occurred on a strech of Lilac Road, west of Via Piedra, at about 5:50 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates a 62-year-old man was behind the wheel of a gray Lexus ES 350 heading eastbound on the road when he veered onto the westbound lane and into the path of a black Chevrolet Bolt. Moments later, the vehicles collided head-on.

Authorities confirmed the woman, who was a passenger in the Chevrolet Bolt, died from her injuries while en route to an area hospital.

The driver of the causing Lexus and the driver of the Chevrolet, a 73-year-old man, suffered major but non-life-threatening injuries. Both men were transported by ambulance to Palomar Medical Center.

First responders and investigators were on the scene for several hours until about 9:00 p.m. At this time, authorities do not suspect impairment contributed to the crash.

An investigation remains ongoing.
