Woman dies after wrong-way crash on I-15 in Serra Mesa

SAN DIEGO, CA — A 32-year-old woman died early Sunday after a wrong-way crash on Interstate 15 in San Diego’s Serra Mesa area, reports ABC10 News.

The fatal collision occurred on the southbound side of I-15 approaching Aero Drive, at about 1:34 a.m.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the victim was behind the wheel of a black Honda Fit heading southbound on I-15. At one point, the Honda was struck by a white Infiniti QX30 heading northbound in the southbound lanes. Authorities said the Infiniti went on to strike a tan Nissan Altima before coming to a stop.

The driver of the Honda, identified only as a San Diego resident at this time, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her passenger, a woman whose identity also remains undisclosed, was transported to an area hospital with significant injuries.

The CHP said the driver of the Infiniti, a 25-year-old La Mesa man, also suffered undisclosed injuries and was taken to a hospital.

No injuries to the driver of the Altima, 58, were reported.

While an investigation remains in progress, officials believe alcohol and/or drugs contributed to the fatal crash. No information regarding pending charges has been made available.
