Young man injured in head-on collision near North City

SAN DIEGO, CA — A 20-year-old man was hurt Wednesday evening in a two-car wreck involving a teen driver near San Diego’s North City area, reports KUSI.

The crash happened in the 14900 block of Via De La Valle at about 3:51 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates the young man was behind the wheel of a blue 1999 Mazda Miata convertible going eastbound on the road. At one point, he moved into the two-way center lane and passed in the path of a silver 2022 Chevrolet Volt EV heading westbound.

Authorities said both drivers swerved to the westbound lane to avoid a crash but ended up colliding head-on.

The man was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, including a broken left femur and multiple other fractures.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 16-year-old girl, reported pain but was not transported to a hospital.

An investigation by the San Diego County Police Department’s Traffic Division was underway.
