27-year-old dead, 2 injured in possible street racing crash in Oceanside

OCEANSIDE, CA – A 27-year-old driver was killed and two other people were injured in a crash possibly related to street racing in Oceanside on Friday night, according to the Times of San Diego.

The collision happened in the 4300 block of Mesa Drive at 7:40 p.m., as the driver of a Dodge Charger was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed. Authorities believe they may have been racing a silver vehicle that fled the scene.

The driver lost control of their vehicle and went into oncoming traffic, where they crashed into a Mini Cooper. The Charger overturned several times, and then fell over 300 feet down the side of an embankment.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two people in the Mini Cooper were airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
