CHP responds to hit-and-run crash on SR-54 near Chula Vista

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — A hit-and-run collision was reported late Thursday afternoon on California Highway 54 near northeast Chula Vista, reports the California Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred on the eastbound lanes at Interstate 805, heading into National City. It was first reported by the CHP shortly before 4:00 p.m.

Few details have been released at this time, but authorities said a white Ford Escort was involved in a crash with a green van whose driver fled the scene.

The victim vehicle was transporting an infant at the time of the wreck, but as of this writing, no injuries have been reported.

The Ford Escort came to rest in the roadway, blocking traffic lanes, but by 4:06 p.m., the scene had been moved to the right shoulder.
