DUI suspect arrested after series of north San Diego crashes

SAN DIEGO, CA — One person was taken into custody last Thursday after a series of hit-and-run crashes in north San Diego, according to KUSI.

San Diego Police responded to the scene of the final crash on the northbound lanes of California Highway 163, near Clairemont Mesa Boulevard.

Authorities said the events unfolded when the driver of a Nissan pickup truck hit a Tesla on Point Loma Street and fled the scene, prompting the Tesla driver to pursue the Nissan.

The chase led the two vehicles into the Birdland neighborhood, where the Nissan struck a home off Meadowlark Drive. The Nissan then continued onto the northbound lanes of SR-163, where it collided with a third vehicle and a guardrail along the exit.

Four occupants in the Nissan were apprehended at the scene after the vehicle was seen trying to drive away. The driver was evaluated for suspected intoxication.

It was unclear whether anyone was seriously injured or taken to a hospital.
