Motorcycle police sergeant hit, hurt by SUV in Coronado

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — A motorcycle police sergeant was sent to the hospital Sunday morning after ejecting from his bike during a crash in Coronado, reports ABC10 News.

The incident took place in the area of 6th Street and Alameda Boulevard at around 9:00 a.m.

According to authorities, an SUV emerged from out of an alley off 6th Street and collided with the sergeant’s motorcycle. The bike became wedged up against the grill of the SUV, causing the sergeant to go airborne over the bike’s handlebars, land on the vehicle’s hood, windshield, and then onto the roadway.

The officer, who maintained consciousness after the crash, was able to radio for assistance. First responders transported him to an area hospital with injuries considered non-life-threatening.

Investigators said the SUV driver and passenger stayed at the scene following the event. At this time, drugs and/or alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors in the wreck.

The California Highway Patrol is handling the case.
