Motorcyclist killed in collision on I-5 near Solana Beach

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — A 24-year-old man died Wednesday morning after his motorcycle collided with another vehicle on Interstate 5 near Solana Beach, according to ABC 10 News.

The accident occurred on the southbound lanes of I-5 just north of Via De La Valle shortly before 9:00 a.m.

According to California Highway Patrol, the man was riding a Kawasaki motorcycle in the left lane at the same time a 49-year-old man was driving a Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck in the same lane.

For reasons still unknown, the motorcyclist rear-ended the pickup truck, causing the bike to lose control and eject the rider onto the roadway.

CHP officers and Solana Beach Fire crews responded to the scene, where the victim was later pronounced deceased.

No further details have been released, but authorities do not suspect drugs or alcohol contributed to the accident.

All southbound lanes were closed to traffic during the response but reopened around 11:00 a.m.
