Truck crashes into National City 7-Eleven during smash-and-grab

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — Major property damage was reported early Wednesday after a truck slammed into a National City 7-Eleven during a smash-and-grab burglary, reports ABC10 News.

National City Police said the incident occurred at the 2425 Sweetwater Road location, near the Super 8 by Wyndham National City Chula Vista motel in the Cypress Glen area. It was first reported just after 3:00 a.m.

Preliminary details indicate at least four people were involved in trying to pry open the front door of the business, which was closed at the time. After unsuccessful attempts of gaining entry, the group used a truck to crash through the front of the store.

The thieves broke into an ATM and looted the business before fleeing the scene in the truck. Authorities said the cost of damages is in the thousands.

No injuries were immediately reported.

At this time, the NCPD has not released a description of those involved.
