UPDATE: DUI suspect arrested after T-bone crash that killed boy in Oceanside

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — A 20-year-old Camp Pendleton Marine has been arrested following a crash late Tuesday in Oceanside that claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy, reports ABC10 News.

Oceanside Police said the fatal collision occurred at North Myers Street and Surfrider Way on July 4, at around 11:00 p.m.

Preliminary details indicate the suspect, Edward Minot Jr., of Mill Spring, North Carolina, was driving a white Volkswagen when he fled an attempted traffic stop. As the Volkswagen sped northbound on Myers Street and entered the intersection with Surfrider Way, it T-boned a dark-colored Nissan Altima that was traveling eastbound.

The victim, who was a passenger in the Altima, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash caused non-life-threatening injuries to the driver and another passenger in the Altima, and at least two occupants in the striking Volkswagen. All four patients were transported to a local hospital.

Responding officers arrested Minot Jr., a confirmed member of the Marine Corps’ 1st Maintenance Battalion, for an investigation into driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter.

The Oceanside Police Department said it is working with the 1st Marine Logistics Group to conduct an investigation.
