Steps to take if you lose a loved one to a drunk driver:

  • Gather contact information from everyone involved in the crash.
  • Stay abreast of the ongoing investigation and court proceedings.
  • Keep records of financial losses suffered because of the accident.
  • Contact a wrongful death attorney to discuss filing a claim.

A wrongful death claim is a civil lawsuit the family of someone killed by a drunk driver can file to the negligent person financially liable for the accident. A wrongful death claim can result in financial support for burial costs, lost future wages the victim would have earned, lost benefits, loss of inheritance, pain and suffering, loss of companionship and other damages.
